Data loss prevention (DLP) tools recognize sensitive data, such as card numbers, health records or customer lists, and stop it from leaving by email, cloud upload or USB drive. They watch endpoints, the network and cloud apps. Businesses that handle regulated data are the usual buyers, because the rules ask them to show where that data goes.
